Everyone in the NFL knows the sacrifice of the coach's wife and children. Often times than not, the wife holds the home together while the father is putting in long hours at work.
What happens when the mom and wife are no longer around?
This is what happened on Friday as Mike Zimmer's wife Vikki tragically passed away unexpectedly. Mike is the Defensive Coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals and has been part of the NFL for years.
In lieu of our normal weekly devotion, I would like to ask you to do two things:
1) Stop what you are doing right now, take a moment, and pray for Mike Zimmer and his children Adam, Corri, and Marki. I personally don't know Mike, but I do know that Vikki was well-respected and admired by many for her love and devotion to Mike and her children. Dave Campo, Defensive Back coach for the Cowboys and long-time associate of Mike's said, "Well it's very sad from the standpoint that she was a wonderful lady. I go way back with Mike, going back to Weber State. I met my wife (Kay) at the same time that he met Vikki. This is a sad day because I feel the worst for the kids. They have three beautiful kids and in the coaching business, in many times, the kids are closer to their mother than they are their father because of the work schedule. That's the disappointing thing more than anything."
The Zimmer's have many changes on the horizon so pray for them right now. Mike will need an extraordinary amount of wisdom and certainly we pray that God will comfort and help the Zimmer's as only He can.
2) If you are in the NFL, take a moment and thank your wife for her sacrifice and her love toward you. Do the same with your children. There is no career and no game on earth more valuable than your family. You need to specifically and pointedly show them that love while your time is limited due to your job.
May the Lord help Mike Zimmer and his children. Pray for them!
"Father, we join together in praying for Mike Zimmer and his children Adam, Corri, and Marki. Lord, thank you for the life of Vikki and all that she meant to those that knew her. Now Lord, please help Mike and his family - give them comfort, hope, encouragement, and strength. Give Mike wisdom as he adjusts to life without his wife. Give Marvin Lewis and his staff at the Bengals wisdom as they adjust to these unexpected changes and help them to know how to best minister to Mike and his family. Oh God, may the Zimmers find their strength in you. We pray for them now in the comforting name of Jesus Christ. Amen."
